Missed Captain Marvel in Theatres? No Worries – See It on August 17th for Free!
The City of San Antonio World Heritage Office presents the annual Outdoor Family Film Series at Mission Marquee Plaza! Join in for a free, family-friendly evening including entertainment, food trucks, and a showing of a featured film on the original jumbo screen. On Saturday, August 17, the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office will show Captain Marvel.
After crashing an experimental aircraft, Air Force pilot Carol Danvers is discovered by the Kree and trained as a member of the elite Starforce Military under the command of her mentor Yon-Rogg. Six years later, after escaping to Earth while under attack by the Skrulls, Danvers begins to discover there's more to her past. With help from S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury, they set out to unravel the truth. Captain Marvel is rated PG-13 and will run for approximately two hours.
Long before the days as a drive-in theater, the area where Mission Marquee Plaza now sits was originally inhabited by the native Coahutecan tribe. This community comprises one of the oldest parts of San Antonio, with a long history dating to prehistoric times. In 1720, Franciscans priests founded Mission San Jose along the San Antonio River, the lifeblood of the city. The Mission Drive-In Theater opened over 200 years later, on March 27, 1948.
In 2000, after a run of more than half a century, the Mission was the last drive-in theater in San Antonio to go dark. It was reopened by Cinemark on May 25, 2001 with four screens and continued service through 2003. In 2007, the Mission Drive-In property was acquired by the City of San Antonio and is currently managed as an arts & culture facility by the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office.
The venue opens at 7 p.m. and the movie begins 15 min after sunset. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy during the movie. The grounds are pet-friendly and on-site parking is available. Don’t miss Captain Marvel on August 17th!
